And for several years they took part in sponsored bike rides, raising hundreds of pounds for the HDA, and giving Anne an extended lease of life. In doing this he "showed care and devotion of the highest order in the way he looked after his wife Anne." This is what the Mayor of Fareham said when he presented Dave with the Vivienne's Champion Shield. The Mayor added: "Not only did he look after his terminally ill wife practically single-handed, but he made sure, by use of either a wheelchair or a specially adapted bicycle, that she could still be part of sports and social occasions, thus giving her a better quality of life. A well deserved award." The award was donated by the Fareham and District Sports Association for the Disabled. Anne has now died. But Dave continues to be part of our family, |

Dave and Anne Geary were keen cyclists. But as Anne’s HD progressed she became unable to ride. So Dave just rigged up a tricycle with Anne’s wheelchair clipped to the front. |
